I was interested at first, because I have a '97 with an expired
engine. However it appears you have the original engine and are
claiming all AD's complied with.

Have you perused section 6 of the AMM? Not an AD per se, much more
authoritative since the content of said section are hard called out in
the Type Certificate data sheet. Time for a new engine.

I bought two with non-expired engines, one direct from the factory
last year. Cost was well under $160K each

Are you saying the engine is shot after 225 hours, or is there a hard
calendar time life on the engine?

For US standard type certificate aiplanes operating under part 91
there is no mandatory TBO or calendar life limit on the engine.
Manufacturers may recommend a TBO or life limit but it's only a
recommendation. For example, Lycoming may say an O-360 is only good
for 12 years or 2000 hours between overhauls but I know many engines
remain in service much longer than that.

Yes and Yes...

We are talking about a hard wired limitation in the aircraft type data
sheet, like "Aerobactic Flight Prohibited". it is not a TBO or a
suggestion. it referes to section 6 of the AMM, which has a whole lot
of stuff that has to be replaced. We spent 30K and did not replace
the engine.

QUOTE:

NOTE 7. Section 6 of the Diamond HK 36 TTC-ECO Maintenance Manual
specifies
mandatory replacement times. These airworthiness limitations may not
be changed without FAA approval.

We paid about 125K for ours, they go for about 180k new.

Wow! I read the TCDS and then downloaded the maintenance manual and
read through section 6.1. Anyone thinking of buying one of these
could have a nasty surprise if they were not familiar with this.

thanks

Andy
