Polar Testing of Cherokee II
I flew yesterday. Perfectly calm conditions. a 5000 foot tow
followed by several 1 minute runs at varying airspeeds from 35 to 75 mph. downloading the video now, hopefully the numbers work out. more to come. |

alright the data is in and its looking fairly good. *looks like minimum
sink is 170 mph at about 41 mph and best glide is 23.5:1 at around 52 mph. Uhh, that makes your L/D somewhere in the neighborhood of .241/1 (point two four one to one!) at min sink. I knew you are kinda bad ass after all that wood/fabric silver chasing, but I had no idea that Iowa had such incredible lift ;-). Pffft, Minden nothing, Iowa or bust!...Boy does your polar pull out of it's nose dive between 41 and 52 mph! Oh wait, you meant 170 fpm, not mph dammit! -Paul |

yea yea, if you look at the time that i posted this note you'll be able to
infer that it was early in the morning after several hours of number crunching. 170 fpm it is. the cherokee has a lousy glide ratio, but not THAT bad -Tony Condon Cherokee II N373Y |
