Lowrance 2000C
Progress Report: I have had this unit for about 2 years, replacing a Garmin portable that I had for about 12 years. The Lowrance was cheaper. The unit developed a problem in the first 3-4 months, I called Lowrance, (tolerable wait on the phone) confirmed the problem and shipped it back to them. Just recently it developed another problem (sometimes the "enter" button works, sometimes it doesn't) and I called Lowrance. This time I spent 2 hours waiting to talk to a rep. No joy. I have to talk to a rep to get a return authorization. Now I am checked. I guess I will wait a few days and try again. Had to get it off my chest. Slacker |

Slacker I've had similar problems with Lowrance customer "service" which is practically non-existent. That's one of the reasons why I'm glad I switched back to Garmin. I just exchanged a Garmin unit and had no problems whatsoever. Just 15 minutes or so on the phone with a Garmin rep diagnosing the problem, shipped the unit back to Garmin, and got a replacement shipped back all within a week. |

I bought one last year for a good price. It lost all satellites on a long cross country and couldn't reacquire for 20 minutes. I pulled my old Airmap 300 out and continued on until it started to work again. I tried everything to get it to see satellites again including pulling the batteries. Hasn't happened since, but I've only put about 15 hours on it. I didn't send it back since I couldn't replicate the problem. Dave |

After my 12 year old Garmin 195 started having problems, I purchased a
Lowrance 1000. In the few months I owned it, I had problems with the buttons not working, a failed backlight, and difficulty locking onto satellites. I eventually talked Lowrance into giving me my money back, and I purchased a Garmin 296 instead. --- Jay -- Jay Masino "Home is where My critters are" http://www.JayMasino.com http://www.OceanCityAirport.com http://www.oc-Adolfos.com |

I saw a friend's 396 do something similar near an antenna farm and he told me it always does that in the area. If often fly my 496 in the same area and have never had that problem. |

I would never put up with the Garmin issues. My 2000C has never dropped satellites or missed a beat. It does suck up batteries though... but, if I were to get another GPS today, it would be the Bendix AV8OR... |

I have had a unit for several years now, never had any technical issues and
I like it. The runway guidance is a great option. My really big peeve is that when I purchased the unit, XM WX supposedly was in development. Two years later, no joy. From what I understand it will not ever be available for this unit. Hence the huge price drops. Peter "Jay Masino" wrote in message ... He sold the company two years ago and is really upset at the way the new owners are operating it. The problem is that the owners are MBAs, who have no common sense on how to treat customers. He says that he wishes they would take his name off the company. In fact, his airplanes now sport Garmin equipment! -- Remove _'s from email address to talk to me. |
