Anyone using the Themi system care to post their evaluation?
* Do you find that you center quicker and more easily than without the
Themi?
* Does it meet with your expectations and was it worth the investment
for you?

I posted an evaluation a few years back, perhaps it's still in the archives?

Bottom line is, yes, it's very useful - and expensive. It has clear
advantages over WinPilot Pro's "climb maximizer" in terms of remembering
where previous thermals are located and providing direction to get back to
them if desired. It even seems to account for altitude variations in
pointing out where they are as you approach their location.

That said, if one already has WinPilot Pro, I wouldn't buy the THEMI, as
much of the functionality is duplicated. Overall, WinPilot Pro is a better
value and the climb maximizer is an added plus.

Of course, the Themi is also an IGC approved flight recorder (all badges
and diplomas, but not world records), for not much more than the cost of
a normal standalone flight recorder...

And, in order to use WinPilot Pro, you need a relatively expensive
flight computer anyway. So you really have to factor all the various
bits of kit needed...

Themi is looking interesting, tho...

As was suggested I searched the archives and found the evaluations
posted previously. Thanks for the feedback folks.

One more question for Themi users: How does Themi figure out total
energy gain/loss, so that it doesn't think a stick thermal is the
center? Do you have to input glider type so it has a polar to work
with (i.e electronic TE)?

Otherwise I see a big problem pulling up from fast cruise into a gust
"fooler" - lots of altitude gain but big loss of energy, and not where
I want to go again!

The Themi does not have any input for glider type or airspeed. It uses GPS
data and pressure altitude only for the thermal centering calculations.
Many reports suggest that it works very well.

Paul,
How many hours, with 4 second interval, will the Themi FR record.
Does it have a 5 volt output and cable to hook up a PDA?

Hi Udo,

The Themi can record 6 hours at 4 second intervals. The default setting is
15 hours at 10 second intervals.

It could provide NMEA output for a PDA, but it can't provide 5V power for
the PDA.
