Don't know, just talking theory without any real specs to prove it will work. This kind of project isn't something I'd want someone to attempt without having a background in both RF and homebuilts.

Pitot tube for the antennae
I was beginning to think it wasn't possible when I happened
across this guys website: http://contrails.free.fr/instruments_ant_sonex.php Looks like it has possibilities. Has anyone ever tried this. Hi all, I would like to point out that for to date, the published data are only *calculated*. Whereas I believe there won't be any radiation pattern problems, the pitot part of the system definitely needs to be flight tested. By the way, the Sonex is one of my buddies' project. The airplane I built is an MCR 4S four seater, with a Bob Archer antenna in the wingtip. Pitot page translation will be available...some day ;-) Regards, Gilles Thesee (the guy with the website) Grenoble, France http://contrails.free.fr |

I'm not building a Sonex, but I'd still like to cut down the number of things sticking out of my airplane. The pitot/antenna combination still looks promising. I think my only other hope for a decent hidden antennae is copper foil tape inside the bottom half of the engine cowling. -- This is by far the hardest lesson about freedom. It goes against instinct, and morality, to just sit back and watch people make mistakes. We want to help them, which means control them and their decisions, but in doing so we actually hurt them (and ourselves)." |
