YE is NOT a charity airlift.


According to the AOPA web sight...

YE is not a "fundraising" operation. The rides are free. The pilots are
not compensated at all nor reimbursed for anything. About the most we
get out of it is being able to get a little discount on the fuel we pay for to
fly these kids.

I just joined the CAP.. and do the Cadet flights in gliders on the CAP dime
and on the CAP insurance.. and we get workman's comp coverage while flying.

And the CAP picks up the bill for aero tow fees and glider rental.

Yes, but the BSA requires a million smooth before they'll even think
about letting you fly sprouts.

The downside is there is a little
bit of paperwork to get the BSA forms signed.


It's a bit intrusive.

Otherwise there would be a gap. One of the da ds in my Scout Den was
an insurance broker. Before we flew he had a lot of questions. The EAA
policy is actually underwritten by a couple companies including
Lloyd's of London. All that paperwork must be submitted to BSA.
However, once you've done it a couple times you just use white out and
change the dates and resubmit the same stuff over and over. The CEO of
Golden Emprire (our local BSA council) was pretty good about it and
usually had a permit signed for me within a couple daysl.

I've been in CAP since 1978. They let me instruct at glider
academies... and I get to solo 14-16 year old CAP cadets. Fun!
Colorado Wing currently has two ASK-21 medium performance sailplanes
(33:1 glide ratio) just to do the 5 cadet orientation rides per
cadet... there is MUCH more flying than we can do, come on out!
