Crash at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport earlier today (1)
Not mine, posted as found at ANP/GeenStijl.nl
Around 1930z this morning Turkish Airlines flight TK1951 (Istanbul-Amsterdam) - a Boeing 737-800 built in 2002) crashed about a mile short of the runway at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, a few hundred yards from the village of Badhoevedorp and a mere 100 yards from the A-9 motorway. 9 on board died (3 of them in the cockpit), some 50 were seriously injured, often critically. Surprisingly about 50 people walked away from the crash, although some returned after a few minutes to help fellow passengers from the wreckage. The aircraft impacted nearly vertically in a field, leaving a trail of only 100-150 yds. Ron -- Non urinat in ventum |

Ron Just seen a Dutch TV programme in which an eyewitness described the aircraft as pulling into a nose-up attitude followed by a steep descent. He stopped to help, and described some of the survivors as having back injuries and broken legs. When asked if he was worried about the danger of fire, he said both engines were lying some distance behind the aircraft and there was no smoke at the crash site. -- Peter Ying tong iddle-i po! |
