Default Active Sync and XP Connection Problems

Last summer my IPAQ connected to my PC no problem. After resting for
the winter the IPAQ no longer connects to my PC. (It was kept charged
all winter)

When I plug into the USB, the XP system tray shows the USB device
being installed and then says your device is ready to use. The IPAQ
shows the connecting to host window, but Active Sync 4.5 does not
connect.

After connecting the Mobile Device does appear under my computer, but
when you double-click it is empty. The charge LED on the IPAQ shows
it is receiving a charge.

I have tried doing the soft reset of the IPAQ. I have uninstalled and
re-installed Active Sync I have turned off my firewall and de-
activated my anti-virus software. I have tried connecting the IPAQ to
3 different computers and it does the same thing on all three
computers. I even tried going back to version 4.0 and nothing works.

After doing some research on the web, I am at the point where I
suspect that it may be a Windows update that was installed sometime
over the winter since my last successful connection of the IPAQ last
summer.

Is anyone else having connection issues like this?

Has anyone resolved this?

After two days of working on this it is getting frustrating!

Thanks, Dave

Default Active Sync and XP Connection Problems

Hi Dave,

I may be able to help you out of the phone with web conferencing so I can
see your computer screen.

However, I no longer recommend using ActiveSync. Instead, just use a USB
memory card reader to copy files to a memory card that you plug into the
PDA.

Best Regards,

Yes. I gave up on PDAs and bought a Clear-Nav. I know it's not the
answer you're looking for, but it's a serious answer. No more fun in-
air hard reboots and task re-entries, no more batteries exploding in
the heat, and dying if it's left unplugged for a few days, and on and
on.

Dave,

Does the 'connecting to host' window remain open for a long period of
time, or does it vanish after a second or two?

Which IPAQ model is this?

Cheers,

Simon

No problem with XP and Active Sync here and I use it nearly every day
to sync Outlook calendars on my home and work computers using an Aero
1530 as the transfer device. Home computer is XP home SP 2 with
ActiveSync 3.1.

I have a vague recollection that when I restored ActiveSync on my work
machine after a re-image I had to find an old version as the current
version did not work.

The Aero series use the serial port though, not USB.

Sorry, I'm no help. I have 3 3800 series PDA's, a 3900 series, and a
2495. All connect fine over the USB OR Serial port with ActiveSync to
my XP laptop. I also have a desktop PC running Windows 7. Using
Windows 7 Mobile device manager, I can also connect to the PDA's, but
it's painfully slow, so I pretty much avoid using it.
