Default I glide data filters

Is there a way to filter the airports and waypoints in iGlide so anything farther than 100 miles (or whatever) doesn't show up when you build a task? The lowest filter I can find is 1000 miles. That's just a smidgen farther than I can get in my ASW-19.

Try using a database for your area from the Soaring Turnpoint Exchange instead of the generic one.

You can also build a custom database on my website at http://www.soaringdata.info. Select the airports tab and follow the instructions at the "Getting Started" link. You can make a new database by simply entering the center point and a radius. You can also edit or update an existing database by uploading it, and applying the same bounding restrictions.

I played around with this a little more today. It works fine on an iPhone, allowing the user to select any distance. On the iPad, the minimum allowable selection was 1000 sm, and it offered increasing selections up to 10,000 sm! But, if you just make a swipe down and don't select anything, and then back out, you'll discover that the filter distance has been reduced. Try it again and the distance is further reduced. I did this a few times and got it right where I wanted. It appears that there is a bug in the iPad version. But swiping blindly several times seems to get the desired result!

Nice bug! Seems like an excellent in-flight feature.

I tried this trick on my iPad. Although the Datafilter Max Distance (under Aeronautical Data) did indeed decrease with downward swipes, I can still see (under both Route and Direct To selections) airports and way points that are much further away than the displayed Datafilter Max Distance. I also see the same behavior on my iPhone, where as you said you can select distances less than 1000.

Perhaps this filter only works for airports and way points that are loaded using the Aeronautical Data function? I'm using Imported User Files...

I always thought that filter only applied to the Aeronautical data function and not to user data. Often airports are duplicated in user turnpoint data, and these overlay the built in Aeronautical data. I turn off airports in the Aeronautical Data for that reason.

Yes, Jon, I agree. I think its placement under Settings|Aeronautical Data instead of in the window that Add Waypoint opens under Route or Direct To makes it most likely to be a download filter rather than a selection limiting filter.

That appears to be the case. The filter applies to airports on the aeronautical data list, but maybe not to any files you've imported. I have a couple of imported turnpoint files, but none are far away enough that I have them filtered out. Although the airports that I have in the turnpoint file and are also in the aeronautical data list show up twice. I suppose I could turn the aeronautical data off, but it know a few fields that our turnpoint list doesn't. So for now I just live with the duplicate listings.
