Ive done this to my Asw-19 glider, somewhat recently. Purchased a conversion kit from Schleicher, installed it and performed W&B balance according to paperwork supplied with the kit. The conversion is evasive and time consuming, but it rejuvenates the glider and in my opinion it is totally worth the effort. I’ve also installed a second airbrake spoiler conversion, with materials also purchased from Schleicher. If you need more details send me an email.

I did this mod to my 19 about 10 years ago. As mentioned, the fitting is
far from easy using the Schleicher-supplied kit. A professional I
talked to later said he'd taken 40 hours to fit the first he did.
But when, a few years later, I made an inadvertent inverted arrival (don't
ask!) it made all the difference between extracting me easily
and performing major surgery on the nose. Made it well worth the effort
involved and I would highly recommend it.

Hi Mike,

Can you email me some more info about the panel mod? Getting my long legs under the panel is fun, but maybe the mod will be worth it. I’m at swanson43537. At yahoo dot com.

Thanks,

John

Easy and cheap mod is to just laminate new panel with larger leg openings. Just draw original panel shape to piece of plywood, group instruments together by using cardboard templates (outer dimensions, of course) and draw new leg openings. Then saw along the line, paint and wax, and you have ready positive mold for glass layup. It is quite easy to make openings 2-5 cm larger if you have a mix of large and small dials. Makes a day and night difference for entry and exit.
