Sadly, Fox news is reporting a collision between glider and airplane
with 3 fatals at Boulder.

msnbc is reporting that the collision was between the glider's
towplane and another light powered aircraft, and that the glider
landed safely.

Thanks for the headsup.

This news says that Cirrus (airplane) flew into the tow rope. The
parachute looks like Cirrus' Airframe Parachute System, not from
glider pilot.

One of Mile High's tow pilots perished in the accident. Please don't
call them for details at this point.

I have a tweet from a tow pilot who saw the collision. It says the
SR-22 hit the Pawnee not the rope. The tug's weak link should have
protected it if the SR-22 hit the rope.

OK, that explains the video of what is apparently the remains of the Cirrus
descending under the parachute while smoking heavily. I was wondering how a
collision with a glider tow rope could cause that much damage to the Cirrus.

Whatever the cause, this is too sad for words.

I know that this it is unfortunately too late to matter for any of
those involved. But as a matter of policy I would suggest that any of
you who have contact with the media bear in mind Title 14 CFR§ 91.113,
particularly the part after paragraph (d)(3) that says:

" ...an aircraft towing or refueling other aircraft has the right-of-
way over all other engine-driven aircraft."

My apologies for raising this issue at this distressful time.

Thanks, Bob K.

It was apparently between a Pawnee towplane and a Cirrus plane (not a
Cirrus glider). The glider pulled off just before the collision and
landed safely, with it's three (sic) occupants.

Very sad.
