Default Glide Navigator II Problem

My GNII, running on an iPAQ 3955, won't load files.

I have the program file under the "Start" menu.
I have the turnpoint file, in *.txt format, under "My Documents."
I have the airspace file, in *.sua format, under "My Documents."

The same files are on the storage card.

I've been using this setup for many years, but all of a sudden, it doesn't work.

GNII starts on the pda, goes to the screen which allows selecting to use GPS input or run as a simulator, but when it gets to the screen of "Initializing GNII" and "Loading files", it hangs, as if it can't find the files.

Greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Ray Lovinggood

Hi Ray,

If my memory serves me correctly the turnpoint file extension should be a
dat, u could save the turnpoints on your CF card as .dat. The only other
time
that happened to me was trying to load to many waypoints.

Hi Ray,

You need to use waypoint files in the Cambridge .dat format. Airspace files
must be in the Tim Newport-Peace .sua format. Using the correct files will
solve the problem. You may need to delete the "wrong" files to be able to
get into GN II to select the correct files.

Hi Ray,

One more tip... delete any waypoint files that are on the 302 itself, if
any, and don't re-load them. My PDA wouldn't recognize the 302 because the
302 had a corrupted file on it. It took me forever to find the problem, but
deleting the file with a terminal program cured it and it's been working
all season.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'll try them as soon as I can make time and report results.

You may also want to post to the GNII Yahoo Group https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/GNII/info.

As to the idea of deleting the contents of the 302. This has happened to me also. The belief is that it has something to do with the memory wrapping feature (overwriting the oldest files) doesn't work correctly in some cases.

I have more information and how-to documentation (from many sources) at http://aviation.derosaweb.net/cambridge/#errors.

Good luck, John
