Default OLC uploading disabled? What does it mean?

I just read this on the Naviter SeeYou page:

The OLC team (gliding) has decided to disable the API for uploading flights directly from apps and devices to OLC. For this reason, we were forced to remove the functionality from SeeYou and Oudie / Oudie Live apps.

Hoping that this is just a temporary lapse in judgment from the OLC team, we will leave the buttons and menu choices for uploading to OLC in our apps. The functionality will be back immediately when (or if) it becomes available again.

We remain committed to delivering functionality in Naviter software and hardware that take the hard part away from you, the Pilot, so that you can focus on what’s important: flying, safety and enjoyment both in the air and on the ground.

Sincerely – Team Naviter

You can still upload on the olc webpage. There has been a lot of back and forth between the instrument manufacturers and the olc over the last few years about direct upload. OLC wants you to open theiR webpage, add to the click count, and see the ads that they sell.

Maybe its time for a competing olc upload site. Do we need to support the monopoly?

The official reason is that their policy is to never store your data on a cloud service. That seem a bit odd to me, as I consider olc public. When I discussed this with them, I suggested the keep their direct upload available to those who care, but insist that providers like LxNav disclose that they use cloud services to store the data before it is submitted. I now upload to the cloud, and then submit from there. Proving beyond a doubt that I don't care if the data goes to the cloud. It is a misguided protection to save us from ourselves...

Cross country aero is a great site. I like their format.

Of course you know that "the cloud" is just someone else's computer...

And so is OLC. I'm not fond of the current format of OLC. But OTOH if we all scattered into posting our flights into many different servers it would no longer be easy to "go see what others' flights were like today". Thus people tend to mostly congregate on one such service, and stick with it for a while. The social dynamics of any possible switch to a new service are fascinating... I see that several people in the same US club have switched to Skylines.aero. I wonder how that came about. (And I wonder how Facebook will eventually suffer the fate of MySpace...)

Of course it is possible for one to upload the same flights to more than one service. Also it is possible, if somebody were to spend the time and money, to set up a meta-server that would redirect to the appropriate actual storage location for each flight.
