For example, one of my oldest filter terms is "Viagra", another that I added just today is "paypal accept". You'll be forever playing catchup with that strategy. You might consider a filter based on the first two or three fields of the posters' IP addresses. That way the content can change, but you still filter it. |

How would that be enforced? The Acceptable Use Policy of some anonymous news providers (notably Altopia alt.net include their intent to discipline the users who post articles to newsgroups that are contrary to the newsgroup charter. If that works, could we also update the charter to exclude any posts that I'm not interested in? That would make it much easier for me. To have the newsgroup charter amended to contain such language would require a majority vote. I vote Larry out. Bertie |

Bertie Larry's post is off-topic, so I've asked his service provider to close his account. It should be done by COB Monday. Excellent. Usenet will be safe once again. Bertie |

First, I'm not an MSOE user, so I'm not able to assist you with the specifics of configuring that news reader. I use Fofte Agent: http://forteinc.com You'll find that GoogleGroups provides the IP address of the GG user who posted the offending article(s) in the 'NNTP-Posting-Host:' header. Here's an example: NNTP-Posting-Host: 218.65.123.140 I would examine the message headers of the spam from China being injected into Usenet from GoogleGroups, and base my filter on the IP address portion of that header field: 218.65.123.140 Perhaps someone who uses MSOE can assist you with the specifics. |
