Default ELT's

My guess is that the fatalities we saw last season are the reason ELT's
are being considered. Making contest pilots use them is the logical
first step, very clever.

I sat in the local airport restaurant for over 2 hours coordiating with
the local Police and SAR folks last spring, we were pretty sure that 2
of our friends were involved in an accident. Turns out we were
right......yes, an ELT would have compressed the time and effort spent
to find them........one died, the other parachuted to safety.

I personally should install the ELT my wife gave me for a birthday
present a few years ago, not to appease the rulemaking body of the
SSA........but to relieve the burden on my friends should I crash
somewhere up in the mountains........

Mal,

that is a good idea, the one I have has a mic jack to allow to to
transmit voice. would be nice to have when needed.

Cheers,

What if you can't operate it?
I rather strap a handheld radio to my parachute and put the ELT in my glider
so I'm covered both ways.
