Default Swinging the compass

On the airacraft compass, the adjustment screw on the left is for the
east/west adjustment or the north/south adjustment?

Don't mean to be a smart-a$$, but who cares? (Unless this is to settle a
beer bet - then I care!). Besides, I'd think that it might depend on the
manufacturer.

It's been so long ago that I don't remember if they're marked or not. I've
always just turned one, and if that wasn't the one I wanted, then I turned
the other. Once I swung it one direction, I knew which was which and the
second direction was easy.
