travel time to gliding site / club?
Yes Mark, but I have Sierra Blanca beer in the fridge in my hangar. Push
the glider in, pop a cold one.Â* Oh yeah, 25 miles/30 minutes from home to my hangar at Moriarty. On 3/27/2019 7:52 PM, wrote: Four minutes max. I live two miles from the airport, and the Sierra Blanca Brewery is on the way back. It's only 1500 ft. from my driveway. -- Dan, 5J |

Well, of course I keep a supply of debriefing fluid in the hangar fridge, too. But the Brewery is handy for resupply purposes. And live music on weekends during the summer.

Question for any / all interested: What is your travel time / distance (round trip?) from home to gliding / soaring club - site? Not that will make any difference to actual journey I need to take but knowing what fellow enthusiast 'endure' to enjoy our fantastic sport / hobby will probably make me feel 'much better' (s a factor in choosing which club to join here in South Africa)! From my home (Benoni) must allow 4 hrs (approx 350 Km) average for any of the 'local' clubs... Thanks in advance. FLY SAFE! very best regards Nigel R- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Two hours each way for Williams CA and three plus for Truckee although it is a mix now as I purchased a motor glider and often fly out of the local airport (15 minutes). I try to stay overnight if I go to the gliderport as it is too tiring to do all the driving and fly. It is expensive but the motorglider definetly makes it possible to fly more often. From my home to the Ephrata airport is 97.8 miles (157 km) one way. I drive that distance almost every weekend. I used to fly from Wenatchee, WA and that distance from my house was 128.2 miles (206 km). Every year for past 4 years I take a trip from my house in Pasco, WA to Montague, CA for a long weekend of flying (4 days) and that is 586 miles (943 km) one way and I don't think I am insane (at least not yet). So, the distance to travel issue is one that you can put up with. Jacek Pasco, WA Jacek, sometime you should stop in at High Desert Soaring and cut some distance off your trip. I haven't flown out of Montague yet but the flying conditions are often better from Bend imho (if you can get the 8 miles from Bend south to Newberry crater/Paulina lake, sometimes it's stubborn). The club operates nearly every weekend. |

It's roughly 3 hours one way from my house to either of the two places I fly: Chilhowee Gliderport and the Blue Ridge Soaring Society (New Castle, VA).
The travel time is major impediment to my flying, sadly. Matt |

The closest is 217 miles one way (349.2km), and the other is 231 miles (371.7km) in the opposite direction. However, I'm working on starting something truly local, within 3 miles of my home. Hopefully this summer! |

travel time to gliding site / club?
All these emails make me realize how lucky we are in Boulder, CO. Our little airport is right in town, there's great infrastructure (university, great restaurants, breweries; Denver and Denver Int'l are just 40 min away, etc), we have an active club w/ ~150 members and excellent club equipment, we fly on any day of the week, 12 months per year; there are great soaring conditions (10-15kt thermals from April to October up to 17,999; wave from November through March; 300+ days of sunshine/year). Cost of living, while high compared to the Midwest, is much cheaper than London, US East Coast, or Cali metros. And we're right at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains... Maybe you should consider joining us here? We'd love to have you! You could just ride your bike to the airport. :-) Cheers, Clemens
