I remember seeing (a couple of years ago, perhaps) a 747 of some
Chinese airline where the blades of one of the turbines was actually
immobilized using an assortment of bandage-like tapes. The pic was at
once a hilarious and scary. I remember now that I'd failed to save the
pic, which isn't smart.

If anyone knows what I'm referring to and remembers a URL for the pic,
I'd be glad for the information, thanks in advance.

That same Air China 747 landed at CYVR for refueling enroute to Frankfurt
but the officials here didn't have the authority to hold the aircraft. Guess
the Germans did!.

Hail, rocks, big birds, disgruntled workers. I understand
they flew it a long way like that, it would not get to
normal cruise altitudes and the fuel flow was very high.
They made two or three unscheduled fuel stops before being
grounded. I read the story somewhere, but don't have the
link handy. If I find it again, I'll post it.
