Default Flight Planning Software Question

I am a member of AOPA and use their flight planning software, but it
is missing something. It does not have any of the information from
the sectional charts... e.g towers, hills, landmarks etc. IS there
any software that will perfrom the same functions as the AOPA flight
planner, but somehow integrate the terminal area/sectional chart
graphics into them? I am especially interested in something that when
you print the flight plan it will print the chart with it. This would
be a BIG time saver.

Thanks!

Aeroplanner.com costs a few bucks, but it's got the features you're looking
for.

Try AirPlanLite. The software and initial data load are free, so you aren't out
anything if you don't like it.

I downloaded the demo and gave it a try. Thanks for the referal to
this one, but it is not exactly what I was looking for, though it is
close. I had a difficult time trying to get my course on the map.
Also, a lot of the landmarks do not show up. Maybe because it is only
the demo... Who knows. Additionally, I had it crash on my 2 times
within an hour.

What about the one made by Jeppesen... FliteStar?

I looked at that yesterday. I could not find a place to download a PC
based copy which makes me think it is only for online use. True?

Yes. It is an online only tool. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever
used one of these tools that wasn't... not that they don't exist.

Rob, et al,

I have flightprep.com's Golden Eagle software (the free version) installed
on both my desktop and laptop computers and use it offline for basic flight
planning before I hit the sectionals. It does show obstructions and will
also display a side-view of the topography along your route. Also shows
which parts of your route are along airways.

You can get free basic updates too.

They have a payware version too.

does what I am looking for. Thanks!

Voyager at Seattle Avionics will do this. Nifty program that's PC-based with
a future online capability.

Flyin'8,

What about the one made by Jeppesen... FliteStar?

It is what AOPA's FlightPlanner is based on, hence it has the same
"look-and-feel" and the same disadvantage of not having some landmarks, BUT:
with FliteStar you can underlay (scanned) "paper" charts (like Jeppesen
VFR+GPS) you can/have to buy from them.

I'm using FliteStar for several years now and are satisfied using it for VFR
and IFR. Planning a flight is made easy with their VectorChart technology,
where you can declutter the screen (e.g. just showing navaids and airspace)
and adding more details when you need them later.

Best Regards

Kai Glaesner
