$
$ means maintenance required on a METAR (and some people thank that the FAA
has no sense of humor) Anyway, if a $ appears in the METAR, does it mean that: 1. No METAR info should be trusted 2. All METAR info should be trusted but some might be missing 3. It is guaranteed to be VFR anyway Thanks, Hilton |

Dinner only or lunch & dinner? Open on Mondays? How about weekend brunch? (*sorry, couldn't resist*) |

(pg. 2, PDF page 9) Report pages 19, 26, and 31 (PDF pages 26, 33, and 38) list some conditions under which the $ will appear for problems with various sensors. Chapter 7 of the AIM tells you how to read a METAR, but doesn't mention the $ indicator. http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraff...7/aim0701.html Matt Roberds |

$
If the METAR says (among other things) "SKC P6SM $" - is it VFR?
Right now I bet most pilots won't even see the "$" and/or know what the implications are. Hilton wrote in message ...
