CAP Inquiry: How much commitment
I saw a post on rec.aviation.piloting regarding CAP.
I'm wondering if any of you wouldn't mind answering an inquiry regarding CAP. I would like a bit more info, if that's possible. I'm located in Maryland, and am going to look into joining. I'm curious as to what type of commitment is typically required. I'm looking for 4th seat type of volunteering and moving up over time. I will be getting my Private ticket next summer. (I had to delay in the middle due to some family medical issues). For example, meetings every week? What about weekends? How often and for how long? What if you have vacations and kid's/family issues occasionally? I wouldn't want to be a "minimum time" person, as it isn't as valuable to the CAP. I'd like to volunteer honorably and insure that I could make more than a minimum commitment before I join. I'd hate to use up valuable training time just to have to quite after a few months. Any of your thoughts would be appreciated. Gary |

As with any vol. group, fire company or what ever the time you commit to is up to you. There is a
required amount of training to participate in SAR missions ect. But that is the only real demand. Training can be at your pace. The key is use your time to your best advantage and be there when you can if needed for actual SAR. Ron Gary G wrote: I saw a post on rec.aviation.piloting regarding CAP. Thanks for the reply!
Ia ppreciate it. Do they generally require attendance every week at meetings? Do they fly and train every weekend? For how long generally do they fly training spotting missions? I am VERY interested - but I do have 2 kids that I want to participate with in their activities. It would be nice to participate say 2 weeknights each month. Then, also participate on 2 weekend days for a few hours each month. I figure that about 4 times a month would be about perfect. Any thoughts? Thanks for taking the time to respond! |
