Tyeing down near the sea.

I used to keep my C172 in a Hangar on a relatively dry region. Now I
had to move and the airport closest to home is near the sea and there
is no hangar space available. There are a few things that concern me:

How to best protect the plane against corrosion considering the
circustances? I have already sprayed the plane with corrosionX.

How often should I wash and wax the plane. I have been sugested three
times a week which I believe is too much.

Another thing that concerns me is high winds. On the months of July to
December tropical storms might come to the area. How high winds would
be dangerous to keep the plane outside?

Please let me know your comments.

how close? 1 mile? 20 miles?

My airplane is tied down under a shelter about a mile from Mobile Bay.
I have it treated with CorrosionX at each annual, twice as often as the
mfr. recommends. I spot treat parts that don't get covered by the
CorrosionX treatments (prop governor linkage & spring, cylinder studs,
for example) with STS Proshield. It's a constant battle.

It probably *isn't* too much, but it probably isn't reasonable to expect
yourself to keep up such a rigorous schedule. I try to wash mine at
least once a month. The CorrosionX working out of the seams and rivets
is a pain to get off.

If hurricane force winds (74 mph) are likely, I move my airplane to
someplace out of the way of the storm. Anything less than that should
be okay if the ties are secure and TIGHT.

If your plane is in an area where a TROPICAL STORM (with a name!!) is
coming.. you should move it indoors or move it INLAND. Do NOT leave it
outside for a real TROPICAL STORM
