But I think you misunderstood him. By "Type Club" he meant an organization
of people who own the same sort of aircraft. Like I am a member of the
American Navion Society ...

Glad you pointed what he meant.

One nice thing about AVEMCO, is you deal direct with the company. Not
only does this mean no middle men, but when I call to ask a question,
I get the rep at AVEMCO who KNOWS THE ANSWER. They are excellent at
asking questions and I have never asked one they couldn't answer.
Impressive. Also, I am on floats for 3 months a year and AVEMCO is
great about prorating the insurance by the day. I call when the floats
are on, and I'm covered. The additional charges start that day. They
end the day I take them off. I've never had a claim, so I can't speak
to their claim payoff procedures. If anyone can, I'd be interested in
hearing what went on. The only other advice I have is to pick a high
deductible, I believer mine is $6500. Those small damage claims are
just recouped in higher insurance premiums the next three years, from
what I hear. Most of us who own airplanes can withstand a $6500 out of
pocket repair (if you cant what are you doing owning a plane?). That
is my take anyway.

For a good quote on Insurance, contact
a club with your type plane and ask them
if they have a group rate. IE: Cessna
152 club, Grumman Club or Cessna Pilots
club or Mooney club. Try them out.
I have a Grumman and built a Biplane so
it is on my Policy also. Who said clubs
don't get better rates. Just a thought.

Bill OParowski

Type clubs often get better rates and maybe even more important better
terms.

I don't understand this.

I was just at a meeting of our club (2 172s, a 182, and a 182RG) where
insurance was discussed. There were also some alumni in the meeting that
own their own aircraft.

I thought it pretty clear that the club is paying far more for insuring an
aircraft than a single owner.

Apples and oranges......what you are talking about is NOT a type club.
