This retrieve is going to cost more than an ice cream cone.

Yep - over 11 hours of driving time each way. Not including trailer speeds, stops, etc.

Barry Yeager and Dick Andrews launched this morning at 10 AM (10 AM!!!) from Fairbault. They are about to cross I-80 in Iowa as of 12:30. They are flying Barry's Arcus M. My understanding is the goal is 750km just east of St Louis which ought to be good for a multiplace distance to declared goal National Record.

Barry's SPOT:

Can we get a IGC file and congrats on the record, Lou you did the retrieve I assume?

"Lou you did the retrieve I assume?"

Nope - that was done by the pilot's very loving wives.

The paperwork will tell the story but I don't think they beat Jim Hard's Sports Class Free Distance record. I think they were a few miles short.

Interesting that the old record was set by Jim with different handicaps.

If Jim flew that flight today with today's handicaps, I don't think the record would ever be broken.

RIP Jim!

I'm going to suggest that to my wife:

"Look, honey, other pilots have more than one wife. Wouldn't that be great for us?
Think how much easier retrieves would be if you could share the driving! And
alternate on the household chores!"
