"W P Dixon" wrote in message ... Yep, To my Uncle in Gaffney SC ,Woody Hayes will always be his hero for knocking the crap out of "The Palestine Heathen" Clemson player. I have sat and eaten lunch with Woody a couple times, in the campus Wendys. When he saw someone with a band jacket on, he would go out of his way to talk to them. He was pretty cool. The last year or so, he was getting senile, I think. I could tell from our chats. Losing your temper out of charater is one of the symptoms. Too bad he didn't retire before that game. So you were in the Buckeye band, pretty cool, what did you play? Baritone horn. Being in the band was one of the coolest things I have ever been a part of. Unbelievable memories! -- Jim in NC |

Jay Beckman PP-ASEL (Former Trombonist) I was actually a trombone player, in the OSU school of music. At the time, Ohio State did not have slide trombones, only valve trombones. Baritones are just about the same animal, and they needed Baritones, so I picked that up. I taught band a few years before becoming a building contractor, then a carpentry teacher. Just a little change, right? The "I dotter" is chosen from among the Sousaphone players, by pier votes. It is quite an honor, and always the high point in a "tuba" players band career. -- Jim in NC |

Why is the pier voting, when Ohio State isn't even on a lake? Jose -- Money: what you need when you run out of brains. for Email, make the obvious change in the address. |

HEE HEE,
He got ya there Jim! I enjoyed the band trips and such, but really what got me out of it was the crappy music I was required to play. just was not to my musical taste! Of course I enjoyed playing sax on "fifties day". I loathed concert band, but I really enjoyed jazz band. And then they would not let you stay in Jazz Band and not go through the torture of marching band and concert band. Patrick student SPL aircraft structural mech "Jose" wrote in message . .. Flew into Pontiac (PTK) once. Did not have any problem getting in and out. "Jimmy B." wrote in news:zGdee.3838$pe3.1306 @newsread3.news.atl.earthlink.net: Hey all, looks like I need to plan a flight to the Detroit area for a family thing. The actual function I'm attending is in Ypsilanti but everyone is meeting at my sister's house which is in South Lyon. So it looks like either New Hudson (Y47), Willow Run (YIP) or Pontiac (PTK) are my choices for airports to fly into. Any PIREPs on any of these airports would be appreciated. Also, if I've overlooked a good choice, please let me know. I'm flying a 172RG so runway length really isn't an issue, but this is an all weekend function so something with tie-downs is needed. TIA for any information. |

"Jose" wrote Why is the pier voting, when Ohio State isn't even on a lake? Yep, that one got away. I left the pier early! g You know, I was running spell check, and saw that mistake, and just punched the next button, thinking that it would stop on that (pier) next, and I could fix it. Just milli-seconds after I hit the send button, I realized that pier was a valid word, and it would go on past it, and send it. I never got the chance to fix it, so there she went! -- Jim in NC |
