Default Market Beacon Antenna - Can I paint?

I have been restoring my Maule Aircraft and removed a pretty oxidized and
"boat" type antenna from the belly. It was working perfectly when the
aircraft was dismantled and there is no decal saying "do not paint" as with
some other types of antennas.

Anyone know if this is paintable?

Tom

Most paint should have no effect on the marker beacon (which operates at a fairly
low frequency). The "Do Not Paint" warning is primarily for the microwave stuff
like GPS antennas.

Thanks, the Antenna mfgs say the paint is important and each antenna is
designed to compensate for it. But, I'm inclined to agree with you. This
antenna is only there to receive one low frequency and do it when the
antenna is right under the airplane. I'll give it a light coat of urethane
and then be sure to test it out.

As an old army crystal cracker, I'd be inclined to think that if you stay
clear of conductive paints, like those that are used to repair broken window
heater paint, circuit board repair paint and to a lesser degree those that
contain aluminium or carbon black pigment, you should be fairly OK for most
antennas.
