Fouled plug IO 470
My engine analyzed is telling me that the spark plug on the #6
cylinder, left mag is fouled. I have a new plug, but can't tell which cylinder #6 is and whether it's the plug on the top or the bottom.... Can anyone tell me which plug it is...? Thanks much, Anthony |

#6 should be 3rd one back on the right (if you are standing in front of
plane, facing it). Magneto may be marked with cylinder numbers also, follow wire from left mag to plug and that should be it. Or just check them both while you're in there. wrote in message oups.com... My engine analyzed is telling me that the spark plug on the #6 cylinder, left mag is fouled. That's why the information you get on a newsgroup is worth what you
paid for it. Here's an easy way to tell the cylinders on a Continental 470. Look at the casting and it'll say the cylinder number. As far as top or bottom, I'll bet it's the bottom, but you should be able to see that with your engine analyzer when you switch mags. Get an engine manual. Thanks much, Anthony What a load of mis-information you're getting!!! Continental and Lycoming number their cylinders differently. On a Continental, cylinder #1 is at the REAR of the engine on the RIGHT side. In other words, in front of the copilot on a single engine, tractor aircraft. Cylinder #2 is at the rear, on the left, in front of the pilot. Cylinder #6 is on the left, with all of the other even numbered cylinders, at the FRONT of the engine, closest to the propeller. STRONGLY recommend you get the engine manual! Rip |

It's a CONTINENTAL not a Lycoming. It's easy, the cylinder that gets there first is #6. What a flood of ignorant information we find in these newsgroups from folks
who don't have a clue. Jim "Michael Ware" wrote in message . .. #6 should be 3rd one back on the right (if you are standing in front of plane, facing it).
