NTSB Identification: ANC06LA032 Nonscheduled 14 CFR Part 135: Air Taxi & Commuter Accident occurred Wednesday, March 01, 2006 in Beluga, AK Aircraft: Douglas DC-3, registration: N777YA Injuries: 1 Uninjured. On March 1, 2006, about 1730 Alaska standard time, a Douglas DC-3 airplane, N777YA, sustained substantial damage during an in-flight collision with trees on final approach to the Beluga Airport, Beluga, Alaska. ...... During a telephone conversation with the NTSB IIC on March 3, a representative of the operator said the pilot reported striking trees at the approach end of the runway during landing. She said the airplane landed without incident, and the pilot subsequently flew the airplane to Anchorage. -- A host is a host from coast to & no one will talk to a host that's close........[v].(301) 56-LINUX Unless the host (that isn't close).........................pob 1433 is busy, hung or dead....................................20915-1433 |

It's tough to kill those old birds.. trees 0, DC-3 1 If you can find it, there was a book written in the late 50's or early 60's called Grand Old Lady, Story of the DC-3 that has a lot of stories of DC-3 "adventures" such as this. I read such a book. It talked about 100+mph blizzards in the Aleutians and taking off backwards in same. But the one that really stuck was the Berlin Airlift Gooney carrying a full load of N sheets of Perforated Aluminum Planking, for extending the runway in Berlin. Pilot had a hell of time taxiing out, and barely got off the ground.
