is a pic of two tubes welded at 90 degrees.
Any idea how he got any strength to the joint? I don't think either
tube had any metal removed for fitting. - Mike

Can't really see where this joint is in the whole setup. Not much
perspective on it.

Uh huh. I don't see any welds that actually join the
horizontal tube to the vertical.

The center section of the horizontal tube appears to be belled
at each end so as to slip over separate pieces of tubing and
then welded near the shoulder of the bell instead of out at
the lip as one would with normal socket-weld fittings.

It kinda looks like the back side of the center section is
cut away to create a saddle shape that could be, but has
not yet been, welded to the vertical tube.
