Done. That sure makes it easy! You will find my 1 Buck contribution in
your PayPal account. You may have to book this as a contribution from a
"foreign country" as I don't even live in California. (Although I did live
in Santa Cruz for 10 years, many many moons ago.)

Now go get 'em.

P.S.: I really do think you could get PayPal to promote donations for you,
as this is certainly a novel use of PayPal.

A guy at work said that she was advocating taxing breast implants.
"What!", says I, "she can't do that. That would be double taxation."

Interesting you should mention Hiram Johnson, our first and last Progressive
governor.

One, his son was a member of my college fraternity at the time. College
Mixers were prominently featured in the San Francisco Chronicle during that
period.

Second, it was during his administration that the whole proposition/recall
experiment in Direct Democracy was started. That brought us Prop 13, and
Larry Flynt for governor.

Hiram Johnson broke the power of the mining and, in particular, the railroad
interests, that dominated the state at the time in a manner un-imaginable
today (read Frank Norris "The Octopus" to get an idea of what it was
like...) but even as a left-of-liberal small d democrat, I think both the
propositions and the recall have gotten out of hand.

Hmmm, how am I going to get back on topic (this is RAH afterall) from
here......

Hiram Johnson was just such a governor of California, back in the 19teens. He
was such a dark horse that when the press came to the door to wake him up the
next day and told him he had won, his first words were immortalized:

"My God, what do I do now?"

-Yeah, but go back and re-read "The Mouse That Roared". Then realize that
-you just *might* win, and be afraid... be very afraid.

A prior poster said that Octave Chanute was flying gliders in San Diego when
Hiram Johnson was governor.

I believe that the gliderguider in San Diego was John J. Montgomery, after whom
Montgomery Field in San Diego on Kearny Mesa was named. Chanute's bio says
nothing about being in SD.

Landing in the Rose Bowl was just a thought out of the box. You need
something like that (outrageous) so that the media will pick up and
get your name recognized across the whole of CA.

Of course if you had an 'emergency' and had to land there you might
beat the FAA rap G

Land, pull a plug and put in a shorted plug for the FAA to find. Think
out of the box.

Gett'm tiger.

Good luck

Yes, I can land in the Rose Bowl. OTOH, I value the tickets in my hip pocket
more than I value the Governor's chair.

-If I were back in CA I'd join your team. Arnold signed up Buffett and
-you need some old gray foxes like BOb and me to even the playing
-field.

Hell, BOb's only five years older than I am. Wha's this old gray fox crap?

You betcha...

From the EAA Fridaygram...
EAA MEMBER THROWS HAT IN CALIFORNIA RING
We received word this week that Jim Weir, a longtime EAA member and
AirVenture forums presenter, is among the 130-plus candidates who will
appear on the ballot for governor of California in the recall election this
fall. Jim admits that he is quite a long shot in the race, which has been
dominated by high-profile personalities thus far. He does add, though, that
his candidacy gives at least one option for voters who support general
aviation in California.

Well, I'll be dipped in cowpoo and rolled in cracker crumbs...

That was awfully nice of them, and I didn't even send them a press release...
