Default ISSUE JANUARY 2019 - GLIDING INTERNATIONAL

JANUARY 2019 ISSUE

The January issue will be mailed during the coming week. Printers, Christmas and Post Offices are not too accommodating at this time of the year.

New Soaring Potential - A location for an easier 1000 metre flight has been found in South America and we have a story of the first flight successfully flown very recently. A gliding holiday exceptional awaits those prepared to take up the challenge.

Most Unusual Marriage - Gliding manufacturers in Europe are cooperating with a new CAA authority in Mongolia. Here again another challenge awaits the enthusiast with an exacting twist.

A Question That Needs An Answer – Sailplanes that are delivered over design weight is proving to be a head-ache for new owners. The issue is addressed in an article for many to contemplate.

Heads Up Display For The Masses – Heads up displays are starting to be fitted to competition sailplanes (*As we predicted two years ago). Details on an inexpensive option for every owner is detailed in this issue.

Skies – We take a good look at “cluttered Skies” Not an easy problem to tackle but it needs attention.

Brexit s presenting major problems for sport aircraft owners in the United Kingdom. They have until March 31 to sort the problems out and that is a totally remote issue that will not be solved in three months. At best, the situation is described as a total shamble. We have detailed three page report on the issues involved.

A gas turbine driving a generator is a possible answer to a lack of battery power.

And continuing laser beams is a real danger to soaring pilots. More on this!

And the U.S. Marines have adapted a 3D printer (applying concrete) to “print” a building. This could make it possible to ”print:” your own hanger,. Extremely interesting prospect!

Sustained flight has proven to be possible with no motor or sustainer. This will open your eyes as to what is
around the corner for us.

ADS-B is explained for those who haven’t got to terms with what may be required for sailplanes eventually.

All this plus another 40 stories that you should know about.
