Air Force designing two new unit awards, By Lisa Burgess, Stars and
Stripes

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Air Force is designing two new medals for units:
one that will be given in recognition of outstanding heroism in combat
and another for achievement or service in direct support of combat
operations.

Air Force active-duty, reserve and guard units who directly support
combat actions will be eligible for the awards, called the Gallant
Unit Citation and the Meritorious Unit Award, according to Staff Sgt.
Matt Miller, a spokesman for the Air Force Personnel Center at
Randolph Air Force Base, Texas.
