Default From ATR to ATP

Hi all,

Does anyone here have an ATR from the old days? I ask cos I understand that
if a pilot possesses an ATR (airline transport rating) as opposed to an ATP
certificate, he/she could flight instruct without having to take flight
instructor's course.

What year the FAA made the transition from the ATR rating to a ATP
certificate?

This is one of the reasons that Certificated Flight Instructor was changed
to Authorized Flight Instructor. ATPs are still authorized to instruct
without holding a Flight Instructor Certificate, but only within the Air
Transprtation Service.
