Default need inexpensive manuals for 172

Having just purchased a 1976 Skyhawk, I would like to buy service and parts manuals for both the airframe and the 0-320.

What is the cheapest practical way to find these books.

You can get them as PDF files on CD from

http://www.mccurtaintg.com/

for about 20 bucks. I find them more convenient than keeping the paper
books around.

Find someone that has the Series 100 service manuals and go to Kinkos.
Or order from Cessna

I'll second that, I have them for my 76 Cardinal, not bad for $20 each
vs the $160 (?) or so Cessna wants these days. They are Acrobat files,
not fully searcheable, but very good reproductions and print out good
on a laser printer.

Also useful is the "avionics & electronics" manual, even if you don't
have many original radios, there is a fair amount of miscelaneous
wiring not otherwise documented in the service manual. If you have a
Navomatic 200A or 300A, there is yet another manual for that, those
come up on ebay quite frequently.

Re Lycomning manuals, try

Finally, AC 43.13, the "acceptable practices" bible is not a bad book
to have if you are going to be doing some maintenance. It basically
explains how to do things right, what kind of hardware and materials
to use for various repairs, etc. It can be downloaded from
http://av-info.faa.gov/dst/43-13/ as a big PDF.
