Default Update to Annex B to IGC Sporting Code (SC3B)

Annex B deals with Equipment Used in the Validation of Flight Performances, and with permission of the IGC Bureau has just been published on the FAI/IGC and GFAC web pages with Amendment 11.

See: www.fai.org/igc-documents and www.ukiws.demon.co.uk/GFAC

One factor in publishing now is that the IGC Sporting Code Committee wished to transfer the detail on Pressure Altitude Calibrations from Annex C to Annex B - this has been done in an expanded para 2.1 in the updated version.

Other changes include:

1. Adding the Front Electric System (FES) to the Glossary.

2. Adding some words in para 1.1.7 about the use of the Blind Flying Instrument (BFI) code as a result of recent GFAC experience with FRs that have the option of an Artificial Horizon display.

3. Adding some words in 1.1.10 about FR security systems, as a result of correspondence with FR manufacturers on the need for adequate shielding of security microswitches.

4. Adding some words on in 1.3.5 on fees payable to FAI for FR approval work, to bring the wording into line with current practice.

5. To bring wording on High Altitude Flight Recorders (HAFRs) into line with what is already published in Appendix 6 to SC3C. See 1.3.4.2.1 and 2.1.2.2

6. Chapter 2 has been re-titled to include Time Recording and the remaining material on this subject added as a new para 2.4. A part of this process, obsolete wording on time recording in the old Chapter 3 has been removed, for instance on mechanical barographs, chronographs and calibrated timepieces, and there is now no need for this subject to have a Chapter on its own because it would be very small.

7. In the updated Chapter 2, the para numbering has been simplified under the headings:
CHAPTER 2 - ALTITUDE AND TIME RECORDING
2.1 Pressure altitude
2.2 GNSS altitude
2.3 Comparison of Pressure and GNSS Altitudes
2.2 Time measurement
