Yes. The TKM MX 170B will slide into the KX 170B tray... Just like
everything else in aviation you'll hear good and bad about them. I think
you can get a new one for around 1.5 AMU's. Here is a place to start:

Good luck!!

There are several. I personally don't like the TKM MX170B. When I had
problems with it they said they won't work on the older ones anymore
and that I would need to buy a new radio. They also do not release the
manuals such that anyone else can work on them. So they've got you
between a rock and a hard place.

I got a friend who was swindled out of his ebay'd TKM radio by the TKM
factory. They had his radio, gave him the runaround for weeks, and finally said they
couldn't fix it. He could either pay close to 1 AMU labor to get the dead radio back,
or buy a new one for 1.7 AMU. Search my more in-depth posts on groups.google... I
know I've mentioned this before.

Dave,

Interesting on that page it lists the SL30 at $4589. One can pretty
much get a Garmin 430 off ebay for the same price. I guess some people
gotta have "new".

Has anyone dealt with this guy? I sent him a couple of emails but have not
received a response. My KX-170B is showing some quirky signs and I don't see
the cost justification for a new radio. I may send mine to him for an
overhaul sometime soon but I'm not sure if he's still around.

Right now a lot of perfectly functional KX-170Bs are being removed to make
room for Garmin 430s and similar new equipment. As a result, there is
somewhat of a glut of used 170Bs around, many of which are offered on eBay.
Many -- perhaps most -- are no doubt junk, but some are specified by the
seller as "yellow tagged" and in some cases the seller even offers a
warranty. For example, check out

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NICE-...spagenameZWDVW

From what I've heard, these units typically sell for around $450 to $550
