Blue Angels jet crashes in Gulf

From staff reports

One of the beloved Blue Angels, the Navy's elite flight demonstration
squadron, crashed into the Gulf of Mexico near Perdido Key today. The
pilot survived, according to initial reports.

A Coast Guard rescue boat and several military rescue units were
dispatched to the scene about 3 p.m., after receiving calls about a
downed aircraft from several witnesses.

Patrick Nichols, a spokesman at Pensacola Naval Air Station, confirmed
that a Blue Angel had gone down in the gulf but said the pilot ejected
from the jet before it crashed.

The Blue Angels' public affairs staff had not yet released a public
statement about the incident this afternoon, nor had they released the
pilot's name.

Yes it's true. It's always sad to see a hero go down - kinda makes us
all that bit more vulnerable.

The only difference is this hero has an ejection seat!

Im not feeling all that vulnerable... A warrior crashes his stunt plane in
the Gulf of Mexico, whoopie! Everyone lived, the war goes on...Our friends
and family are still on that line protecting us and I feel safe as ever.
