Of course, he _was_ a typical Los Angeles teenager who happened to own
a P-38. When he entered UPT in the early 1950s, he had over 1,000 Hrs
of P-38 time. (He flew plank-wing F-84s in Germany. I think he was
with the 36th Fighter-Bomber Wing.)

Briefly in 'A walk in the sun', a 1950s film (about the ground war in
Italy) that starred John Ireland. P38s can be seen hurtling across the
background in some shots.

IIRC he did some tests with the Swiss P16 STOL attack/fighter and the
Learjet owes quite a bit to it mainly in the wing.
