Planning a trip to Page, AZ in early Oct. in a C-172. Would appriciate
any input on surrounding points of interest and the "Cliff Dwellers
Lodge" appox. 15 nm SW. Comming in from the SW over the Grand Canyon.
Is there a large crater in this area...have not been able to locate it
on my WAC.

Thanks,
GT

There is a large crater near Winslow Arizona. It's a National Monument.
Should be on any street atlas of Arizona. A street atlas of the USA is
a great map to carry btw.

There used to be a charted airport not far from Page, I think at Cliff
Dwellers, right down IN the canyon. Check it out, may not be there any
more.

You'll have a hard time missing Lake Powell when flying into Page - but
it's worth a tour in it's own right. Also, Monument Valley is not too
far away.

Be sure and make a stop at Marble Canyon, http://www.airnav.com/airport/L41
I haven't been there for a year or two, but it's an interesting little strip, good restaurant, and beautiful
scenery.

Go to the National Parks Service website and check out the great
national parks in that area. There is a slot canyon nearby that
offers great picture taking opportunities. See the following:

That would be Marble Canyon, and it is not "down IN the canyon" if you
are referring to the Grand Canyon. Some people seem to have that
misconception, perhaps because the Vermilion Cliffs are just off to the
north (more or less), giving the appearance of being "in the canyon."
