Default Boeing: $823 million contract for 15 ground-based interceptor missiles

BOEING CO. has been awarded an $823 million contract for 15
ground-based interceptor missiles and other work on a U.S.
anti-missile shield due to become operational next year, the
Pentagon said on Friday. Up to six interceptors are to be
deployed in Fort Greely, Ala., next year and up to four at
Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. An additional 10 are
to be fielded at Fort Greely in 2005, for a total of 20, as
part of a rudimentary shield, chiefly to protect against
perceived threats from North Korea. The U.S. Missile Defense
Agency, a Pentagon arm, said Boeing's contract also covers
upgrades to an existing U.S. early warning radar at
Flyingdales, a British Royal Air Force base in Yorkshire,
northwest England.
