Or...better yet, make friends with your local radio service
technician. It's a sure bet that he has a Bird and the proper slugs.
I'm sure a quick once around the airport is cheaper than a Bird 43.

In a Ham Radio shop , possibly Radio Shack, you can get a swr meter for the
144meg vhf band which is quite useable on the aircraft band.
