What's the reason for the gull wing?

I think it will reduce the rocking-horse ride associated with flying wings
in turbulence.

The gull wing is an effort to eliminate some of the tail area and help
maintain directional crusie control.

Mat,

I was curious about the hotwire cutting. Was it a stricly 2-D cutter?

I have seen one company that makes 3-D foam cutters that can cut very
elaborate shapes, though this may very well be out of your budget. It
would make the transitions between sections much smoother.

Also regarding the hotwire cutting how will you accurately align each
section?

Why did you not cut a groove/slot/hole along the centerline of each
section and insert a pipe or beam to align them?

This is a strickly 2 D hot wire machine but we are looking in to a 3d cnc.
In actual fact this actually goes quite easily as each section needs only a
small amount of work.

There is a cutout in the bottom of each piece that makes the alignment quite
easy.

Mike Couts did all the work and built the machine... he will be flying the
Pioneer IId in a contest but he may give a more detailed reply to this after
the weekend.
