Attention P4M-1Q folks
VQ-1 had a forty-ninth birthday Tuesday (Commissioned June 1, 1955 at Sangley Point before moving almost immediately to Iwakuni, thence Atsugi and now, Whidbey). The VQ-2 date is 1 September of the same year (Commissioned at Port Lyautey and moved in 1959 to Rota.) The few of us Plankowners - P4M-1Q drivers, crewmen and fixers who are still up and operating - are looking around to find as many of us as we can so that we may make some small gesture in our names next year on the fiftieth anniversaries of the two squadrons. If there are any P4M-1Q types out there, I've been tapped to keep the roster, so give me a growl. (I was present at the creation of VQ-2 and flew the beautiful beast for four years.) John McIntyre
