News from the ground is the BRS Chute was deployed but did not arrest
the aircraft's descent. Early WAGS are lack of sufficient altitude to properly deploy the chute, as the acccident occurred during take-off phase. YMMV and wait for the NTSB Report. Always seems like a rash of GA accidents right as the weather turns warm...wonder why that is? Or it might be that the outcome was doubtful, chute or not. A serious control malfunction at low altitude (below minimum deployment altitude for the the chute) is a no-win situation. Odd, since the closest thing the local paper in Greenwood could find to
a witness was the guy whose backyard it crashed in. Even he admits to only going outside after hearing the crash. I also happen to fly from the same FBO at RYY that the ill fated Cirrus left from earlier in the day. As of now the only news is "crashed on takeoff" just like the preliminary reports.
