Default Tost Rings

This weekend we found a tost ring that was split. It was difficult to
see because the rope was rapped around the split. From the looks
of it, it had been split for a long time. I do not know how old the
ring is or when it actually failed. Take a few minutes and inspect
your rings!
I would post a photo, but I am not sure how.

Safe Soaring,

Scott

I found a split Tost ring last year. The larger of the two was split. The give away was the sound, more tinny higher pitch when you jingle the rings.
It had been in use for a while on pavement, so we could not see a serial number on the ring. No number, it's not a true Tost ring.

We had a ring break a few years ago at a CAP flight academy. It was found while winch launching. I don't have the rings, but they were purchased through a known vendor. The academy leader was to follow-up with the vendor but passed away, so I don't know if there was any resolution.

Default Tost Rings

Check if they are conform LN65091, or if they are cheaper welded ring. The
latter have a tendency to fail and cause significantly more wear than the
Tost rings.
