Please add the 2015 Midwest OLC Championship to your 2015 soaring calendar and come join your soaring friends for a week of "laid back" & friendly OLC based competition, socializing, teaching and learning. We already have 15 pilots planning on attending within the first 24 hours! This OLC thing appears to be very attractive!

Ionia airport (Y70) is a truly excellent soaring facility. The field selection for the Ionia flying area in late May is almost endless. In addition, the Ionia flying area is littered with numerous small airports in almost every conceivable flying direction. A very "average" Ionia flying day allows modest performance gliders to easily hop "airport to airport" while flying cross-country. The airport itself offers a huge, 4000'x400' N/S grass runway and a 4500' E/W paved runway with grass parallel. Ample on-airport camping is available along with 8 motorhome stations (30 amp service) available thru Benz Aviation. The Ionia airport terminal building is brand new in 2013 and has all the comforts one could ever want! The town of Ionia is a "small" but steadily growing town with major shopping (Meijer's, Walmart, Menards, etc) and numerous popular restaurants all within 2 minutes (literally) of the airport. Several average hotels are minutes away with the larger metropolitan areas of Grand Rapids and Lansing only 25 minutes away.

We will organize daily morning weather briefings for the pilots at 10am (just like a normal SSA contest) followed as daily 45 minute cross-country clinic for the beginners, up to potential new contest pilots. Mentors will be assigned to all new pilots and by request. At the beginning of each morning briefing, we will present daily awards for the top 10 pilots from the day before. Several perpetual trophies have been donated by our (soon to be announced) sponsor for annual achievements: 1) most improved, 2) longest flight (OLC handicapped), 3) fasted flight (OLC handicapped) and 4) top Jr. pilot. These will be awarded at the awards banquet.

We also have a variety of social activities planned for the week. Ionia contest traditions will be upheld such as the wine and cheese reception, movie night at the historic Ionia theatre, barbecue night and a Wine Tasting party sponsored by a famous Michigan winery. Check the website for the social schedule.

For non-flying days or rest days, Michigan has an almost limitless amount of famous tourist attractions, golf courses, beach towns and museums, etc.

Please contact Sean at smfidlerATgmailDOTcom with any questions.

Sincerely,

Sean
