4G and GPS interference
Frank Whiteley wrote:
http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-02-...-gps-dead.html Since they used a signal generator to simulate the LightSquared transmissions, and could therefore insure the signal stayed within the allocated frequency band, it would appear that the fault is likely in the GPS receivers. However, this and other articles seem to claim the LightSquared transmissions are "interference" - implying that they emit unacceptable signals outside their allocated frequencies. I'm not sure it would be fair to characterize their emissions as "interference" if in fact the GPS receivers are "listening" too sensitively to frequencies outside their working bands. In the end I expect LightSquared is going to be forced to change their operating plans because of the installed base of GPS receivers, irrespective of the quality (or lack thereof) of the GPS receivers or LightSquared equipment. |

http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-02-...-gps-dead.html Add this to solar flares, problems with CATV amplifiers,UHF trnasmitter harmonics, etc. etc., and you beging to understand why VOR,ILS and ground based radar and transponders will be around for a long time...not to mention the FAA underestimated the cost of the GPS equipment/system by a factor of about 10X original projected cost. |
