Default Old AvGas

Planning another trip to the Arctic, I was offered a drum of SEALED
avgas 100LL that is supposedly "several years old" by an airport up
North. I am not so much concerned about water, rust, sludge or any
other impurities which can be filtered out. What I would like to know,
however, is if avgas somhow chemically detiorates. Could it do harm to
my engine, by burning too hot too cold or anything like that?
Advise is appreciated!
Gerd
