Default best flight training videos??????

HI. I am just starting on the process of learning to fly. I want to
start with some video type lessions. Can I get some recomendations
as to what is the best? Here are teh 3 I have heard:

King Schools (what is the diffrence in the DVD and the DVD/PC, other
than $100

Sporty's ---the one I am leaning towards

MS Flight sim ---they say it has a good flight school in it????

Thanks alot!

King has a Cessna Pilot Course that is one of the best on the market if your
particular
training facility is a CPC school.

Sporty's ---the one I am leaning towards

Sportys IMHO is great for reviewing.

It's OK if your only going to become a SIM pilot.

I would check with your instructor to see what he/she is using for primary
training.

I'm currently working on my Instrument rating and have found the King CPC
course to
be a great transition from their private pilot course.

See whether you can get a copy of the "Learning to Fly" series that was
broadcast on Discovery Wings.

I don't have personal experience with the King videos you are asking about, but
if they are strictly instructional, for instance intended to use to study for
the knowledge test, I recommend the PC version over the video/DVD, because it's
easier to navigate from topic to topic, skip over a topic, go back to a previous
one, etc. If it's strictly entertainment, then probably the video is fine.

I personally like the King instructional videos, but they're an acquired taste
and many don't like them.

Remember that this is first and foremost a game intended for entertainment -
not training. Do not expect to be able to fly a real plane with anything
approaching practical test standards after going through MSFS "Flight
School".

As for videos, the only ones I used were for my instrument rating and I used
the King CD-ROMs for that. I thought they were useful and I did quite well
on the written test based on that and the ground school I took through my
flight school (using Jeppessen).

However, it still is a valuable tool for practicing procedures. I agree
it's no way to learn instrument flying, but once you've got the basic skills
under your belt, MSFS -- or pretty much any other GA flight sim for that
matter -- is not a bad way at all to get a lot of instrument approach time
in, and it's cheap too. Sure, it won't count in your logbook, but that
doesn't mean the experience isn't worth anything.

No doubt, as I use it for much the same thing. My main point was to
discourage anybody thinking that learning to fly from scratch (not simply
reinforcing existing skills) by using MSFS is not the same thing as learning
in a real plane. There are just too many differences between the
platforms - not to mention that MSFS is intended primarily as entertainment.

Now, for me, entertainment is setting visibility to just above mins and
shooting a partial panel LOC back-course approach.

Make that: ...discourage anybody thinking that learning to fly from
scratch on MSFS *is* the same thing...

Call up Sporty's and ask for the 1st volume in their DVD private course.
It's free, but they charge a few dollars for S&H. It will give you a good
idea of what their course is like. (I liked it)
