A BRAC list, NOT!
Plain and simple bull****. The BRAC "list" currently circulating (often
from folks who should know better) is a regurgitation of the list created by Carlton Meyer, a former Marine captain and defense policy hobbyist. His vanity web site is here http://www.g2mil.com/. If you'd like to compare the "list" making the rounds on the internet and emails with his, try this link http://www.g2mil.com/2005.htm. It was published first in January 2004, he's added some more commentary and rationalizations to it since he first derived it. Meyer's queer for bases that are neither too large nor too small ... IOW, "Just Right" sized ... The Goldilocks principle. If you scan his site, he has some good ideas. He also has some ridiculous ones (blind squirrel principle?). What's fascinating is this thing has developed a life of its own. Not unlike the post about all the bad things that happened to POW's because of Jane Fonda's visit (an arguably traitorous act ... but small potatoes compared to Lt. Kerry's visit to the NVN delegation in 1971) or the flight 800 conspiracy garbage. Unfortunately, I think the continuing propogation of Meyer's "list" may actually influence the process. R / John From: "Elmshoot" Subject: new BRAC list Date: Friday, December 17, 2004 6:34 PM Naval base closures and realignments include: * Ingleside Naval Station, Texas * Naval Postgraduate School, California * Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi * Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst, New Jersey * Naval Recreation Station Solomons Island, * Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane, Indiana * Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, Virginia * Navy Supply Corps School, Georgia * New Orleans Naval Support Activity, Louisiana * Pascagoula Naval Station, Mississippi * Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, New Hampshire * Saratoga Springs Naval Support Unit, New York Marine base closures and realignments include: * Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Georgia * Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, California (realignment) * Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California * Marine Corps Mountain Warfare School, California * Marine Reserve Support Unit, Kansas City * Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California (realign or close). Well lets see if any can muster the effort that NUW put out to get removed from the BRAC list. As far as I know they are the ONLY base to be removed from the list. Miramar will close just because of the politics. Now we will see if it becomes a satalite field for Linbderg as was proposed over and over in the last 35 years. If I only had a Billion $ for real estate development... that is after the Navy cleans up all the HAZ waste. Sparky |
